Description

About Hydra, Greece

A trip to one of Greece's most beautiful islands only an hour from Athens. Widely known as one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, Hydra makes up part of the Saronic Islands, located in the Aegean Sea between the Saronic and Argolic Gulfs. It is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strip of water. In ancient times, the island was known as Hydrea, a reference to the natural springs on the island. Its most famous for its fine architecture, pebbly beaches and its captivating character. You can spend your time hiking along the coast or lying on the pristine beaches some close to town, and some remote and secluded, accessible only by boat. Pack a picnic and hire a cacique (a traditional fishing boat) for a day on the water or go for a scuba dive in the waters of the island. One of the greatest parts of this stunning little paradise is that there are no cars allowed on the island. The main method of transportation here is mules and donkeys, as well as water taxis which buzz around the island like bees.
