Description

Take home this Zulu bowl and wide vase in vibrant colors and made with wire...truly unique!

Zulu are known for skill an artistry in creating baskets from native plants and grasses of their African homeland.  Drawing on generations of weaving experience, talented Zulu weavers have invented a unique method of working from the rim down to the base. Due to the difficulty of weaving with wire, men usually weave and use the income to support their families. Wire is made in South Africa to replicate the brightly-colored telephone wire used in the past.  The vibrant colors, mesmerizing designs and refined shapes are hallmarks of this functional art.

Baskets of Africa, founded in 2002, supports weavers who are crop and livestock farmers weaving to supplement their family's income. Per Baskets of Africa, "By purchasing one of these unique creations you are contributing to the preservation of African culture and the weavers' financial independence". Enjoy this treasure in many ways!
