Description

This is an amazing opportunity to have dinner with a true Drew legend! During his 24 years at Drew, John Magee taught science and math, was Dean of Students and Assistant to the Head, was Faculty Representative to the Board, wrote the Parent and Faculty handbooks, served on the Long-Range Planning Committee; developed the Integrated Science curriculum for freshmen; started programs in outdoor education and music; started and advised the Gay-Straight Alliance; served on the Admissions Committee and helped design and build sets for school plays. In short, he was a busy man!

In 2013, John retired from Drew and he now lives on San Juan Island in Washington with his dog, Tiger, a Lagotto Romagnolo who specializes in truffle hunting. Togehter, they hunt at a Douglas Fir tree farm near Arlington, Washington, as truffles grow on the roots of the fir trees.

John is bringing his newfound love of Oregon black and white truffles to San Francisco with this custom meal for up to 12 guests in your home designed with Drew dad and chef Joseph Manzare (Max '20). A native of the Bronx, NY, Joseph started working in restaurants in his early teens. He traveled to Italy and spent ten months working at San Domenico in Imola. He has worked with Wolfgang Puck and was nominated “Rising Star Chef of American Cuisine” for the James Beard Awards. His iconic San Francisco restaurants have included Zuppa, Globe and Tres Tequila Lounge.

Each course will feature truffles either foraged personally by John Magee (and Tiger) or obtained from another local Oregon truffle hunter, and will be paired with wine.

This is a Live Event Item.

Special Instructions

Date to be mutually agreed upon during truffle season 2019-20; John and Joe will need access to high bidder's home the full day of the dinner.
