Robert Soneru's Bio:

Originally from Romania, I have 28 years of teaching and coaching experience with a USPTA Elite Professional Certification.
While I played tennis I achieved a number 1 ranking as a junior in the 18 & Under division by sliding and carving the tennis ball on red clay on my way to winning the Junior International Championships of my native country, Romania in both singles and doubles.

In 1985 I received a tennis scholarship for a division 1 college in San Diego and completed a bachelors degree in Hospitality management in 1989.
In 1990 I played Team Tennis for a German Club and in 1993 I was part of the World Team Tennis for New Jersey Stars featuring Mats Wilander.

As part of my coaching portfolio I'm most proud of is my time as a private coach where I traveled around the world at all 4 Grand Slams with a Top 60 world ranked professional woman playing on the WTA Tour. I also like introducing 5-6 year old Pee Wees to tennis and see the joy on their faces when they hit the first tennis ball over the net.

While coaching on the East Coast in New York City, I was named the Eastern Tennis Association Player of the Year in 1993 and again in 2003.

I enjoy developing and coaching juniors of all ages, sharing and growing a student abilities and passion for tennis.

Tanoan Country Club’s 14 tennis courts (eight of them lighted) are a hub of activity throughout the year. The club maintains a year-round calendar of USTA-approved tournaments, leagues and round robins for all ages and abilities, with a talented team of USTA-certified teaching professionals available for private lessons and junior development programs
