Enjoy an outing on one of the most scenic sections of urban river in the country. An experience on the Charles River from Charles River Canoe & Kayak's Boston location in Allston/Brighton is a wonderful respite from the surrounding city, with parkland on both shores and rowers plying the waters.

Or, if you'd rather, paddle in the heart of Boston and Cambridge from their location in Kendall Square! This nine-mile stretch of river has no current, allowing painless round trips. Not exactly what you're looking for? Their location in Natick is on Lake cogitate in cogitate State Park. The lake has three main sections (North, Middle, and South "Ponds"). The Charles River Canoe & Kayak's boathouse is on the north end of the Middle Pond. Between the ponds, you'll find bridges and tunnels leading to smaller, more intimate places to explore. (Expect powerboat traffic, especially on weekends.)

Finally, don't forget to take a look at their Newton options to see if those sound like the settings you'd prefer! There is a scenic 6-mile stretch of flatwater between the Rt. 16/Newton Lower Falls Dam and the Moody Street Dam. There you can find abundant wildlife along the river, including herons, otters, turtles, cormorants, muskrats, ducks, geese, and swans.
