Description

The bakers at Genuine Nova Scotia Oatcakes locally source the finest ingredients to make something truly magnificent. Breaking ranks with traditional oatcake recipes, GNSOs shake off the pesticide residue, starting with all organically grown grains – newfound oatmeal, whole spelt flour and brown flax seed – lightly sweetened with Nova Scotia maple syrup and honey and mixed lovingly with real butter. "Basic Goodness in Every Bite!" since 2014.

Over 320,000 oatcakes baked to date. One might say they're getting rather good at what they do. Today GNSO's come in eight flavours:

  • HALIFAX SOCIALS CLASSIC Oatcakes

  • CRANBERRY ORGANICS with Organic Cranberries

  • BLUENOSE BLUES with Nova Scotia Blueberries

  • COMPASSION COMBOS with both Blueberries & Cranberries

  • MAPLE MAGIC with certified organic Maple Syrup

  • LAVENDER DREAMS with Lavender culinary buds

  • ORGANIC HASKAPS with Organic Haskap Berries

  • BUCKYOLAS 100% Organic & Vegan made with Buckwheat & Artisan Canola (low or no gluten and no dairy).

The KiloCan™ was an early innovation – using repurposed large coffee cans from Halifax Bridge Clubs for mailing – well over a kilo, 80+ oatcakes, packed with certified organic oatmeal as edible cushioning (to prevent breakage). Zero waste packaging that really works.

GNSO owner and practitioner Ken Wallace listens to dharma while baking. You can see here what he was listening to when he made each batch over the last five years.
