Lion's Roar Store: "Seated Guanyin Bodhisattva" Fine Art Print, Large
Item Number: 599
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Lion's Roar associate art director Liza Matthews struck a chord with many readers when she selected this Guanyin for the cover of the magazine. Visitors to the Lion's Roar Foundation's online store have since made this print one of their top choices.
Liza chose a black background for her presentation of the image. Housed at the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City she says "it is one of the most beautiful depictions I've ever seen of what we would call vajra pride - the powerful proclamation of self-existing enlightenment."
Representative of compassion Guanyin "is sometimes depicted as male, sometimes as female, and in a variety of postures, sometimes with many arms. This seated Guanyin is human-like and very much at ease." The statue comes from the Liao Dynasty (907-1125) in China, a 95" by 65" wooden figure, impeccably preserved.
The Lion's Roar Foundation is including this print in the auction owing to its tremendous popularity in the online store.
