Special Instructions

Established by the Louisiana Legislature in 1817 making it the 3rd oldest incorporated ciyt in the State of Louisiana, although the Attakapas Nation used it as their fishing and hunting grounds and the Africans and Europeans have been living in the area since the 1750s. The current church, St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, was built in the 1840s, making it older than St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, and the oldest church in southwest Louisiana.
