No professional basketball player has won more championships than Bill Russell did during his time with the Boston Celtics. An 11-time NBA champion, Russell set the standard for excellence and finished his career as a player-coach in Boston. 

He also won two NCAA Championships (1955, 1956) and captained the US Olympic team to a gold medal during the 1956 summer games. 

He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975.
