Item Number: 101

Description
Durham University Orchestral Society (DUOS) presents a world premiere, student composition, commissioned especially by DUOS for our Chancellor, Sir Thomas Allen and the University Chamber Orchestra. The composition competition will launch shortly, with set text chosen personally by Sir Tom. This will be an incredible concert of firsts for Durham University – performing in a world-class venue, with world-class performers.
As Sir Tom says, “Commissioning a piece… is to be encouraged anywhere, but especially in a University environment”, we are thrilled that he will be championing this with us next June.
The concert will also feature orchestral classics, such as Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, with soloist Hector Halford-Mcleod (Music, Josephine Butler College, 2017-20).
This amazing evening will be held at Sage Gateshead, an internationally renowned music centre, located on the bank of the River Tyne.
