Before… is a sculptural landscape in which plants are the central focus and evidence of Man has yet to appear on the scene. For Ashby, plants, especially vines, represent the tenacious force of Nature to survive and proliferate in the face of Man's determination to tame them. In Before… the artist used hand dyed papers, assorted papers, steel with bronze detailing, and porcelain clay to create the image.
