Leah Mahiri is an artist, writer, and crafter. She holds a BA in Fine Arts from California State University, Sacramento, and a Certificate in Children's Book Illustration from RISD. She has exhibited her work in the AAM's Flower Show. Leah has taught arts and crafts classes to adults and children at Joann Fabrics, and several local school groups.

The Secret Life of a Dead Leaf is a watercolor painting. The artist found this leaf in her children's fort. As she was about to throw it away, the sun cast its shadow, causing her to see it in a new light. She stopped to admire the tiny shapes the bugs had carved out of the leaf, giving it a new look, a new life. Leah loves how art is often pausing to see the beauty that is right in front of you.
