Sarreguemines faience was produced from 1860-1919. Sarreguemines is a French town whose name was used as part of a mark for a factory that made ceramics. Faience is a type of earthenware of high quality, made to look like Chinese porcelain with its opaque white glaze. The Royal Sphinx factory, established by Petrus Regout (1834), started as a glass factory and later began to produce fine pottery.
Antique Sarreguemines faience French plate design. Blue & white transferware, marked with the blue Loraine crown & wreath German trademark, Made in Germany. French floral, gilded, c.1889 -- 1918. 1890 luncheon plate by Petrus Regout & Company of Maastricht, Netherlands in their Abbey pattern. Plate features a Dutch abbey, with smaller portraits of the abbey on the rim. Sphynx mark on back.
