Description

The LAPhil's Biggest Birthday Bash ever!

This one-of-a-kind 100th birthday celebration – on the very date of the LA Phil’s first performance – begins with Conductor Emeritus Zubin Mehta leading the swirling colors of Ravel’s arresting depiction of the waltz, which not only takes the music as far as it could go, but also marks the end of a bygone era. Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen then leads the 4th Symphony by the late Polish composer Witold LutosÅ‚awski, which we commissioned. Salonen and the orchestra had a close relationship with the eminent composer and recorded all four of his symphonies. Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel follows with a suite from one of Stravinsky’s most beautiful and most beloved ballet scores. The final piece takes the celebration to a new level as Daníel Bjarnason’s premiere will utilize all three conductors. There will never be another night like this one.
