Description
Discover a world of choral music unknown to most Americans--the depth and power of Russian choral music and its marriage of spiritual depth and awesome musical force. This November San Francisco's own Slavyanka Chorus presents masterworks by two of Russia's greatest composers. Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is an extraordinary expression of the sublime with all the lyrical melodic grace of his symphonic writing. Sergei Taneyev's Ioann Damaskin (John of Damascus), almost completely unknown in America, is a moving setting of a 1000-year-old text written to guide the soul of a monk to eternal rest after his death.
Slavyanka (www.slavyankachorus.org) is a forty-voice chorus which has been bringing the 1000-year tradition of Russian choral music to the Bay Area for forty years.
Voucher is redeemable for two tickets to a performance at Mission Dolores in San Francisco on Friday, November 8th at 8 PM, or at First Congregational Church in Berkeley on Sunday, November 10th at 4 PM. Open seating at both concerts.
