Description

Enjoy an unforgettable evening at the San Francisco Ballet!

The winner will receive two (2) tickets to Romeo & Juliet on opening night -- Friday, May 1, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. Orchestra seats (OR V 114,116)

This San Francisco Ballet performance at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House will include a backstage tour given by Cathedral parent Michael Anderson (Julian 2022).

Michael has worked at the Opera House since 1991 and currently holds the positions of Assistant Master Electrician for the San Francisco Opera, and Stage Electrician for the San Francisco Ballet.

Your special evening at the Opera House will begin with a tour starting onstage where Michael’s guest will get to view the Ballet scenery and sets up close. There’s a good chance that you’ll see some of the dancers warming up backstage.  It will also be a great time to commemorate your visit with a photo of you standing at the edge of the stage with the glorious interior Opera House architecture as your backdrop.

After this we’ll take a walk into the large “Patch” area where the SF Ballet company stores its upcoming productions. Next stop will be the basement of the Opera House to visit the Wigs and Makeup department and watch these artists work their preshow magic on the dancers.  From the basement, we’ll head to the 4th floor of the Opera House over one hundred feet above the stage to get a unique bird’s eye view of backstage and the rigging system.

We’ll finish the tour back onstage at our high-tech Stage Manager’s console to give you a feel for what it’s like a call a show for the Ballet.  Michael has already given many tours this year at the Opera House to faculty, staff and parents here at Cathedral and he guarantees your evening at the Ballet will be a night you won’t soon forget!
