Description

Looking for a unique nursery decoration? This antique book measures 20 inches by 26 inches and is a vintage teacher's easel edition used when teaching young children to read. There is no copyright date listed, but it's similar to books produced in the 1950s (e.g., Our Big Red Story Book by Ginn and Company), with similar construction and illustrations.

Condition is fair, with (all?) 30 pages included; some staining due to age on some of the pages. Pages are held by loose-leaf binder rings, so individual pages can easily be removed for framing. The book "stands" are firmly attached and still work to hold up the book.

From the inside cover (see photo):
"THE BIG BOOK is an enlarged reproduction of the first seven stories of the first pre-primer, At Home, in the "Sheldon Basic Reading Series." Directions for using THE BIG BOOK during the beginning stages of pre-primer reading are found in the Teacher's Edition of the pre-primers. By using THE BIG BOOK, the children are able to give their full attention to the process of learning the initial steps in reading without being hampered by the mechanics of handling a book or being distracted by its physical presence. Furthermore, it is a valuable aid in helping children to make the sometimes difficult transition from chart reading to book reading."
