Description

Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th President of the United States when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in November of 1963. Johnson later ran successfully for President in 1964 as the Democratic nominee against the Republican nominee Barry Goldwater. He is known for his "Great Society" social service programs, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and for expanding US involvement in the Vietnam War.
