This intricately hand-woven silk piece, sewn on black brocade, measures 25 by 17 inches.


Varanasi is a city in North India that is known for the production of very fine silk. Most weavers in Varanasi are Momin Ansari Muslims. For generations they have passed on their craft from father to son using room-size foot-powered looms.
