Among other roles, Ron Merkin appeared in New York City productions as Harding in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Nachum in Fiddler on the Roof, a pirate in The Pirates of Penzance, the devil's assistant in Joan and the Devil, Sasha in Room Service, and the Skeptic in An Easter Experiment. On the west coast he played Martin Dysart in Equus, George in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Dr. Prentice in What the Butler Saw and others. Ron studied acting with Michael LaMont at the HB Studios in New York and Julie Akers at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. While living in Europe he was the singer in his "No Smoking" jazz, dance, Broadway, pop and blues band.
