About the Artist - Lynda Colley

Having always possessed a strong creative streak, Lynda has experimented with many artistic pursuits in the past, including watercolour painting. Though she has had no formal training, Lynda continually develops her artistic skills and currently creates abstracts paintings, as well as pencil drawings of endangered animals.

Her abstract work is born from being drawn to a particular colour or feeling, or wanting to reflect a certain mood; she loves to use rich, vivid colours and create textures that make her work tactile and inviting. Receiving a new, blank canvas causes excitement as she becomes impatient to fill it with vibrancy and life!

She is particularly interested in drawing wild animals, and those that are endangered. Lynda is passionate about the protection of our wildlife, jungles and oceans and follows animal charities and rescue stories for inspiration. She often browses the IUCN’s (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) Red List of endangered animals for information on her subjects.

Lynda finds drawing her subjects completely absorbing: "The eyes of these fabulous creatures call out to me and I feel the need to try and capture them on paper. It makes me incredibly happy to know others find my work enjoyable and thought-provoking. Hopefully, whether displayed in the workplace or home, the drawings raise awareness of the beauty and plight of these animals, while my paintings give people a chance to break away from routine and delve into their own imaginations, or simply take a little more joy from their surroundings.”

Lynda has entered work in several local art exhibitions and currently has work displayed in her local art centre, The Tecton Art Centre and Gallery in Buckinghamshire. She also exhibits via her own website and online shop at lyndacolley.co.uk

A Message from the Artist: "Abstract painting is my usual medium, but I follow a number of wildlife animal charities on Facebook and love seeing the rescues. Their faces call out to me. I was amazed by some drawings and paintings I had seen of wild animals and decided to set myself the task (as my homework) of teaching myself to draw them, really not expecting to be quite as disciplined as I have been. I enjoy seeing the progression as I finish each one. It is making me smile."
