This stunning "Raju Forever Free" limited edition prints were kindly donated by Ann Radley, a professional artist living in Vancouver.
When asked why Ann was so inspired to paint Raju she replied,
"I was inspired to paint Raju because I was horrified by his long years of suffering and determined that he would keep his dearly won freedom. It has been such a joy to see the photoos of Raju beginning to heal, to play and trust those around him. Long may he live in his happy home!
The world's last remaining elephants seem to face threats from all sides and I am drawn to help them for many reasons. They are deeply sentient beings whose intelligence and complexity rivals our own. They live long lives and share strong familial bonds and are capable of feeling suffering deeply.
In India, captive elephants are often exploited through ignorance and tradition.
It is inspiring to see an organization such as Wildlife SOS work to educate and challenge these obsolete traditions. Their work not only involves pulling off a daring rescue, but navigating a complex legal system and taking on the enormous financial burden of legal battles, and then providing medical care and safe have to these animals for the rest of their lives.
It is an honor if my artwork can in some way support these efforts."
