Description
After spending nearly four decades of her life serving a greedy master, Kalpana got another chance at life when she arrived at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital for treatment on the 1st of April, 2019. Within the first week of her arrival, Kalpana let us see the glimpses of her playful personality. When she was out in the open field, despite being unsure at first, she quickly discovered the joy of uprooting grasses and playing with dust. In fact, she found that the poles in her enclosure can double as scratching posts and she can be seen cathartically scratching herself.
We're excited to debut Kalpana's first footprints in collaboration with artist Alpana Ahuja. All footprints were done with eco-friendly chalk-based paints. Read more about the process below.
Singapore based Artist Alpana Ahuja supports Wildlife SOS, by collaborating with the rescued elephants and creating the ‘Padhchinh’ (footprint in Sanskrit) series of paintings. Started in 2013, this collaboration has raised much needed funds for the elephants. Gentle Elephant Phoolkali was the first co artist and over the years many elephants like Lakshmi, Wally, Suraj, Mohan and Gajraj have participated.
This year Alpana presents for the first time footprints of two very special elephants- Raju and Kalpana!
The new collection is also made with an eco-friendly range of paints, so the run offs from the feet of the elephants is not polluting the earth at the ECCC (Elephant Care and Conservation Center)
