This piece depicts Ramu, an elephant rescued by Wildlife SOS in 2019. Ramu was only 19 years old at the time of his rescue, but his poor body had already aged so much. Suffering from severe osteoarthritis, torn foot pads and a fractured ankle, Ramu was weak and in pain when he arrived at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital for lifetime care and treatment.

Now, our young tusker lazily enjoys bath times, strategically dismantles his enrichment, and picks up speed running around his enclosure. He has taken leaps in terms of improvement and receives regular treatment by our veterinarians.

About the artist:

Patricia is a graphic designer and illustrator from Costa Rica, graduated from Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), and master of Knowledge Visualization from Zürcher Hochschule der Kunst (ZHdK), Switzerland. From a very young age, discovered a great passion for nature and animal protection. Having a background in arts and design, she decided to dedicate her skills for the protection of wildlife. After working for several years in marketing and as an independent graphic designer, she cofounded the Costa Rica Wildlife Foundation,  helping lead campaigns and strategic communication plans, by spreading biological research to reach as many people as possible, looking to inspire population to care for the environment and create the change we need for a better future.
