Vince Pitelka has been professionally involved in ceramics for a half century. Vince continued developing his craft and by 1975 he was a full-time studio potter making functional tableware and kitchenware at Railroad Stoneware, his studio in Blue Lake, California. In 1985 Vince and his wife Linda and son Morgan moved to Amherst, MA to attend graduate school at UMass-Amherst, where Vince worked with Frank Ozereko and Nancy LaPointe and completed his MFA in 1988.
In grad school at UMass-Amherst he switched to handbuilding, and did colored clay vessels and architectural sculpture for 15 years.
From 1994 until his retirement in 2018, he was Professor of Art and head of the Clay Program at the Appalachian Center for Craft, a satellite campus of Tennessee Technological University’s School of Art, Craft & Design.
