Description
Founded in 1894, Vroman’s is the oldest bookstore in Southern California. It is located next door to the Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena’s Playhouse District. Aside from a well-curated selection of inventory, Vroman’s is recognized for outstanding programming which includes literary events, signings, book clubs and workshops.
Vroman’s was founded by Adam Clark Vroman who moved to Pasadena from Illinois. He was a supporter of the Pasadena Public Library and helped rescue a few of the old Franciscan missions from decay; he was also involved in establishing the Southwest Museum in nearby Highland Park. Vroman was an avid photographer with a focused interest on the American West and Native Americans; his photographs can be seen at The Huntington and Southwest Museum—he was one of Ansel Adams influences.
