Description
5 week session of tutoring in English and literary studies, ages 11-18 with Anupama Amaran.
About Anu:
Indian-American poet, graduate of the MFA in Writing program at Vermont College of Fine Arts, founding editor and organizer of River River and adjunct professor at Ramapo College. My poetry has appeared in Waxwing, Drunken Boat, Fourteen Hills, Monkeybicycle, The Bitter Oleander, Bayou Magazine, ellipsis, CutBank, The Tulane Review, Permafrost Magazine, and other publications. Find essays, reviews, translations, and more poems at Numéro Cinq Magazine. Honors include a fellowship at the Center for Book Arts in NYC and Pushcart Prize nominations in 2015 and 2018. Check out my recent profile in Nyack News and Views Local Arts Index. Find me on Instagram @a_anupama and on Facebook.
I teach poetry and revision the way I was taught by my mentors and teachers: Jody Gladding, Jen Bervin, Leslie Ullman, Richard Jackson, and Ralph Angel. Recitation and close examination of imagery, word choice, and line integrity are central to my poetry-revision discipline. I teach kids and teens in much the same way, but using creative games and prompts at Writopia Lab. I also freelance as an editor of medical and scientific writing; for more information visit my Mediabistro profile.
Contact me by e-mail at aanupama@seranam.com, on Facebook, or through the comment box on the home page. I hope you enjoy some of the publications below and my poetic reflections here on the blog!
