Description

Two lessons with LaGuardia Alum Ethan Cohn in Electric Bass, Acoustic Bass or Composition. Lessons will be conducted virtually.

24-year-old Ethan Cohn is a bass player and composer. Born and raised in New York City, he began playing classical cello at the age of five. As a teenager, he became fascinated with the jazz, rock, and blues of the ‘60s and ‘70s, which inspired him to switch to the electric bass. Ethan soon found himself playing acoustic bass as well, studying at Juilliard’s precollege program with world-renowned bassist Eugene Levinson. After graduating from Laguardia High School, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in jazz performance at McGill University in April 2017 and currently resides in Montreal, Canada, where he performs regularly with numerous groups.

In addition to being an integral member of Montreal’s creative music scene, Ethan has worked and performed with such luminaries as John Hollenbeck, Jean-Michel Pilc, Theo Bleckmann, and Bireli Lagrene. He has been a participant and performer at the Banff Workshop for Jazz & Creative Music (2017, Canada), the Umbria Jazz Festival (2017, Italy), and the Generations International Jazz Festival (2018, Switzerland).
