Description

Medium: Risograph print on paper

Process: Each first-grade class created a risograph print on paper using numbers, letters, and solid shapes. Each print is presented as a framed piece with an accompanying legend of each student's inspiration.

Inspiration: In a time where things are becoming increasingly digital, a nostalgic love for ephemera and vintage design emerges. Invented by Noboru Hayama in Japan in 1946, the risograph print creates layers of color that appear similar to a screen print, using a special soy-based ink called RISO ink, also invented by Hayama. In first grade, our students begin to see their ABCs and 123s as a way to endlessly explore the world around them. In the process of making a risograph, each student imagines that letter/number in a story of its own.

Coordinators: Irene Faye Duller, Manae Ross, and Mika Stjernvall

The frame size is 20 x 28.
