Birch Bark Backpack from Beth Homa Kraus
Item Number: 143

Description
As seen in Frozen 2!
This backpack is diagonally woven with hand processed birch bark from the North Shore. Using traditional Scandinavian designs this backpack has a bark woven flap. To increase durability, leather has been woven into the corners or the flap. The straps are made of a Kodiak Oil tanned leather with brass buckles and the closure uses deer antler.
The bark is a mixture of inner (golden) and outer (white) side showing off the lovely variation in colors.
This backpack is smaller than the traditional large packs and is intended for everyday use not expeditions. Approx: 12" x 11" x 3"
Conditioned with beeswax & walnut oil
Beth Homa Kraus is a full-time basket weaver. After studying painting in college and working as a caseworker for the homeless, she interned at North House Folk School where she learned many traditional crafts including boat building, but mostly different styles of basketry. This sparked her obsession with birch bark, which is now her main medium. She sustainably harvests and processes her own materials by hand. Beth is always trying to figure out what she can make out of birch bark next and how to share this durable and beautiful material with people.
