Description

Hopi coiled seed pot. By Vernida Polacca Nampeyo.  From Martha Wheelock

I bought this pot from the artist at the Hopi Reservation, in 1988, and it has been in my personal collection ever since.

This Hopi pot was hand coiled and hand-painted by Vernida Polacca Nampeyo, a member of the Kachina Clan at Hopi/Tewa. Vernida is the great-granddaughter of Nampeyo, a granddaughter of Fannie Polacca Nampeyo, and a great Hopi potter in her own right. This pot is a signature work by Vernida bearing the migration pattern that was often also favored by the great potters who were her ancestors. It is in mint condition with no defects of any kind and it is signed by Vernida. The signature is legible.
Specifics:
Vernida Polacca Nampeyo - an original signed piece
Hopi-Tewa Pueblo, New Mexico
4 1/2" T x  3 1/2 " Diameter at the middle; 1.5” at bottom
Signature is legible, light stain from museum wax at the signature, which is very legible.
