Description
"Sunflowers in the Rain" by North Museum's artist-in-residence Matthew Dougherty. Width by height: 18” x 24”. From the artist: This painting was done with oil paints. It was created outside, while it was raining, during a downpour. The dramatic expressive strokes were done with fingers in some cases. The actual rain wet the canvas while the oil paints, being water resistant, had difficulty sticking to the canvas. It was a struggle, not unlike what we’re going through today, but in the end, the beauty of the beaten down bright flowers shine through.
