Description

In early March, just weeks before the schools closed and our lives shifted in most unimaginable ways, kids in 1-Lau created an amazing and, in retrospect, almost prescient art project, based on their year-long studies of celestial objects, and the Moon and its phases in particular.

Each of 25 students was assigned a date ranging from April 1 to April 30, 2020. There are 25 days illustrated in this artwork; starting and finishing with the 7th day of the First Quarter (some of the visually redundant days were skipped over).

Each individual moon phase is illustrated on a 3 x 3”  black matte board. Artwork was created by first sketching an outline of the moon phase in pencil. Then, the “night sky” background was “drawn", using glue and glitter. Finally, each student filled in their moon outline (with exception of the New Moon Day), using “puffy paint” (mixture of white paint and flour), more glitter and textural tools to create the surface of the moon.  The squares were arranged into a grid on backing board. The artwork will be custom framed in a 25 x 25 frame and delivered to the lucky high bidder.

The chart of the dates of the moon phases and the square assigned to each child is attached.
