Description

"Our Rainbow Pride Flag"

Connected six-part collage

Early in the school year the Willows class engaged in three separate but similar art activities. We combined two primary tones on large paper collaboratively to make new colors green, purple and orange. We worked for days on each piece of work painting and then gluing an assortment of collage materials onto the paper. Then they were displayed on the dividers, a set of three color collages.

In late October, we decided to use these beautiful collages to create a rainbow flag. We did need to paint a few more of the colors to complete the flag and then put them all together in order. At our group time discussion we talked about seeing this flag around the neighborhood, in our homes or at another family member’s house. We printed out a couple of pride flags and hung them around in the classroom.

In early January, we unveiled our pride flag which was beautifully framed by an FTCNS parent and expanded on this important conversation reading the book, "Rainbow: A First Book of Pride" by Miichael Genhart PhD.

Since 1978 this flag has represented LGBTQ pride.

Beautifully framed courtesy of FTCNS parent, Ross Marten, from The Alley Gallery in Evanston. www.thealleygallery.com
