Description

Lion's Roar deputy editor Andrea Miller met with Thich Nhat Hanh at his "Open Mind Open Heart" retreat in 2011. That interview appears in the January 2012 issue of the magazine. This is one of the calligraphies Thay created and gave to the Lion's Roar Foundation on the occasion of that visit.  The literal translation is “know when it is good enough” but it's also meant to convey contentment, gratitude, and an overall peaceful and thankful mindset. Says our translator Wenhui Gao, "It’s a very peaceful word and a good philosophy of life!"

Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, poet, scholar, and peace activist. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967 by Martin Luther King Jr. for his efforts in generating peace and reconciliation in his native country where he now lives.
