Artist Statement: SHELBY CARBAUGH HENLEY

Shelby Carbaugh Henley is a native of Richmond, currently living and working from her studio in Chesterfield, Virginia. She graduated from VCU with a degree in Psychology and later U of R with a Master of Education. In 2018 Shelby picked up a paint brush for the first time and since then has not looked back. In that time she has developed a whimsical and loose style of painting with acrylic paints, and often embellishes her works with found-objects that spark her creative juices. Don’t be surprised if you find sequins, glitter and even the occasional splash of funky nail polish color in her work.
