From the artist:

"I have been painting for over 60 years.

One important goal of my artwork is to provoke, stress and bring to awareness and enjoyment our sense of vision…so important for acknowledging identity, location, and actions, but often not consciously regarded or reinforced…perhaps atrophying from lack of recognition. Art for survival, perhaps.

Realistic art, yes…or abstract images of something that is real…oil on canvas…or pastel on paper. Through texture, luscious materials, and geometry, I try to pull an observer in to engage with the visual surface, to apprehend my physical gestures during application, and my energy, creating a relationship between artist and observer, together: energy, vision, connection.

Narrative representational content adds an additional layer of richness. Beauty in composition, light-dark contrast, shape, movement, color, image, meaning, emotion, order, and truth are all important, but not primary. I don't try to present a window to reality, but rather an arrangement of pigment, strong visual aspects, and geometry on the surface as the primary reality of the piece."
