The wordlessness and immediacy of painting are what draw me to the studio; the passionate desire to translate observation and experience into paint is what keeps me there.
I work from life, memory, imagination. My interest is not in recreating but in discovering. I trust that the rigor and play of layering, scraping, and starting over will eventually lead me to the essence of a painting. Fundamental questions guide me: What I am I trying to communicate? What is the painting communicating back to me? And together how can we create a work that evokes a strong and honest emotional response?
