The Rowell Rodeo has been entertaining area residents and challenging competitors since 1921 when Harry Rowell, the King of the Rodeo, held the first Hayward rodeo on the Burbank School playing field. He moved the rodeos out to his ranch in Dublin Canyon in 1930s where they have been held ever since. This was the bucking bronc competition at either the 1947 or 1948 rodeo. Thousands of people turned out for the event both years. The rider appears to be Ross Dollarhide, one of the top rodeo riders in the country at the time.
