Mt. Mansfield Single Chairlift Blanket

Description
Own a very collectible piece of Mt. Mansfield’s ski history; an iconic blanket from Stowe’s famous single chairlift installed in 1940/41. Skiers donned blankets for the 2,030’ ride up the ski area’s cold and windy face, until the lift was retired in 1986. The durable red check wool that faced these blankets was woven at nearby Vermont’s Johnson Woolen Mills. The outer is cotton canvas. In later years, local businesses could pay for advertising on the blankets. CocaCola is screened on the front, Swiss Challenge, based in Stowe, a youth program that organized summer hiking trips to the Alps, is on the back.
This blanket is from the 1970’s – 80’s and shows normal wear and tear for a blanket that made thousands of trips up and down the mountain. The edges are somewhat frayed and the once black backing is a bit faded.
The chairlift blanket was donated to our silent auction by a long time Stowe skier.
