Description

Enjoy this breathtakingly beautiful red 'ohi'a quilt, created by Waialoha of Na Mea Hali'i. One-of-a-kind, this is a Queen/Full size cotton quilt with a yellow back.

It was lovingly designed and machine quilted by Waialoha, a Kona native who sees fabric combinations in the Old Hawaiian style.

The Hawaiian word hali’i (blanket, covering) will forever gives Waialoha comfort as it takes her back to the days of her Tutu Maleka's home, whereby she would sound the call for keiki bedtime by saying, "Make hali'i," (meaning prepare your bedding). They would gather their blankets, lay them on the floor, and proceed to giggle and talk story until they fell asleep.

As Waialoha advanced through the years, she would hear the endearing term of hali'i used to represent the act of loving preparation of a bedroom as family members would come to visit: "Make Hali'i."

As Waialoha swaddled and caressed her babies wrapped in a handmade quilt or blanket during the quiet moments of the night, she could hear her Tutu sweetly whisper, "Make Hali'i," meaning give comfort and love.

As a Tutu today, Waialoha has lovingly and thoughtfully created many simple unique quilts, blankets, pillowcases and Tifeafea’s for my children, grandchildren, parents, sisters, cousins, aunties, uncles and friends. She now creates them for you, with the hope that you enjoy the colors of the past and feel the warmth and comfort woven in each of her quilts.

Mahalo nui loa Waialoha and Na Mea Hali'i for your support!
