Kealopiko Dress - "'Olopu" Pattern

Item Number: 282
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
'Olopu- the name of a ko'i used to carve the wa'a of Wakea and his people. This ko'i was passed down through the generations of chiefs and was known as a "ko'i na'i aupuni" ("nation-building ko'i"), befitting of Kamehameha Pai'ea who acquired it before uniting the islands under his rule. This pattern honors Awaiaulu (www.awaiaulu.org), an organization committed to facilitating understanding of 'olelo Hawaii and 'ike, acknowledging that this 'ike is our contemporary ko'i na'i aupuni-- a tool to unite the people of Hawaii in a deepened understanding of the past that will allow current and future generations to flourish.
