Description

This intriguing drawing is part of series Julie S. Graham created in response to the view outside her studio. Maintaining a studio in an industrial area of Boston, Graham became fascinated with the contrast between the organic forms found in nature and the geometric order of the manmade environment. In her delicately sketched and subtly colored drawing, she juxtaposes orderly stacks of upright rectangles and squares rectangles with a spindly stretch of fine lines, grass-like hatchings and a spill of horizontal bands. Each giclée reproduction of the original is presented in a double white mat and framed in a clean matte black wood frame.

Based in Boston, Julie S. Graham works primarily as a painter, although sculpture is also an important part of her practice. She is currently on staff as a faculty member at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
