A single lot of two related books.
First: Henry D. Thoreau. By F. B. Sanborn. Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1882, 1888. From the American Men of Letters series. Reddish-brown cloth with gilt letters on cover and spine and gilt top edges. Outer spine has faded with time. Pages are clean for its age. One of the earliest biographies of Henry David Thoreau. This copy is INSCRIBED "by the author" to [Benjamin] Marsten Watson on an opening page.
Second: Between Concord and Plymouth: The Transcendentalists and the Watsons. With the Hillside Collection of Manuscripts. By L. D. Geller. Thoreau Foundation, Thoreau Lyceum, Pilgrim Society, 1973. Good green hardcoer with good dust jacket in plastic sleeve. Now you can learn why Frank Sanborn signed his Thoreau biography to Marsten Watson.
