Description

Whether you can imagine this in your home or in the lobby of your business, there is no doubt that this beautifully restored 1947 Chain Driven Murray Trac Turbo Drive toy tractor will be a conversation starter and highlight to any room or collection.

Well-loved through its years, it is now ready for a new home; to delight a whole new generation of children and adults.

The Story: As told by our generous donor Mr. Gordon McAlpine:

In 1956, our family temporarily moved from Ottawa to the U.S. so that my father could complete his post graduate studies at the University of Illinois. On Christmas morning of that year, Santa delighted me with this wonderful second-hand Christmas gift. (I didn't know that it had been previously loved until many years later).
The economic boom that followed WW2 had stimulated automobile and farming machinery production on a massive scale. For progressive farmers, tractors were the only way to go and in order to overcome any generational skepticism, tractor companies cleverly indoctrinated future real and pretend farmers with robust children's pedal versions. Mine was a 1947 chain driven MURRAY TRAC TURBO DRIVE.
Over the next sixty years, it withstood any and all abuse that my family's six kids and all of their friends could put it through but retirement in the garage attic and modern technology finally took its toll. It was either restoration or the junk pile.

Thanks to Samuelson Pedal Tractor Parts of Iowa, welding by Mitchell Carroll of Dunrobin, together with body and paint by Chesley Booth of Woodlawn, it rose again like a phoenix in 2015.
