Artist statement:
Celebrating Zara's freedom on World Elephant Day. This is a painting of Zara, the latest elephant to be rescued by at wildlifesos, India; until her rescue almost 2 months ago, she had been abused and neglected as a begging elephant for 21 grueling years. She is undergoing treatment at the WildlifeSOS Elephant Hospital for painful joint and foot conditions, which she endures with a gentle and patient calm - and treats of watermelon. She is able, however, finally, to discover many of he joys of being an elephant- slow peaceful strolls in tall green grass, luxurious dips in the Yamuna River, dust baths and undisturbed naps on mud beds customized for her still sore body.
