From the artist: "I fell in love with the rich vibrant colors and intricate designs gracing the buildings, textiles, and artwork while I was in India. In India and elsewhere the elephant has long been revered as a symbol of good luck and good fortune. It also represents power, dignity, intelligence, and peace. According to Indian mythology the elephant is one of the nine jewels that surfaced when the oceans were churned by gods and demons seeking the elixir of immortal life. Ever since, elephants have been considered precious, and must be preserved and protected. This inspired my artwork "Jewel of India"

Artist Statement:

"My greatest joy is creating visual art from the rhythms of line, shape, color, and contrast. I lose myself in the creative process, its flow translating to visual imagery. I express myself creatively in a variety of styles, mediums, and subject matter, whatever inspires." Jan Jenkins grew up on a small island west of Montreal and worked in Alberta's energy industry before relocating to Dauphin, Manitoba. She now spends her time creating original art for smaller spaces and wearable art for that unique look. For more information on Jan and her art, please visit her website www.RiverWestArtworks.com
