Winters in North India are harsh and temperatures dip as low as zero degrees in areas surrounded by open fields, such as our Elephant Rescue Centres. Cold and dry winds blow all throughout the day and night and our resident elephants find relief basking under the warm winter sun. Our elephant care staff prioritises the comfort of our elephants and covers them with warm jumbo jackets and blankets, while their enclosures are covered with tarpaulin curtains. We also install halogen and sodium lamps in their enclosure so they remain warm and comfortable during this time.
