Jai knew no respite from his painful, exhausting routine until he was rescued and rehabilitated at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital for care and treatment. His whole life, he was forced to walk on blazing tarmac surfaces, wearing heavy, illegal spiked chains and was tightly restrained from all his legs to filthy concrete surfaces. As a result, Jai suffers from supporating, infected wounds, severe osteoarthritis, and toenail abscesses that require intensive foot care treatment for a long time.
