Description

Rhea and Mia have an unbreakable bond. They were both former circus elephants and now spend their lives at Wildlife SOS. These lovely ladies will never have to perform ever again.

At a tender age, Rhea was ripped from her herd in the wild and tamed (read: brutalized) so she would perform in a circus. When she arrived at Wildlife SOS in 2016, she was reunited with her companion, Mia, from the same circus. The girls trumpeted and gave trunk hugs, so excited to be together.

Mia spent the first 42 years of her life in the circus. She was rescued by Wildlife SOS in November, 2015. Years of excessive work, abuse and neglect left this lovely elephant with swollen limbs, cracked toenails and painfully damaged footpads and cuticles with severe abscesses. Today she's a happy, healthy elephant who loves to play with best friend Rhea.

Size: Original watercolor in 8 x 10 inch mat.

About the Artist: Belinda Stewart lives in St. Augustine, Florida. She works in all mediums but favors watercolors. She studied in private classes with famed watercolorist Mun Quan and art classes at Jacksonville University. All her watercolors are painted on professional Arches watercolor paper with Windsor Newton paints.

From the Artist: "Wildlife SOS has captured my heart with their ongoing love and care for all the animals retiring at their sanctuaries. From freeing Raju from chains and the legal battles to rescue sweet Mohan, it is an ongoing endeavor to save as many as possible. Since being retired, it has been pure joy seeing a photo posted of an elephant, bear or leopard and setting it aside to become inspiration for my watercolors and acrylics."
